Spirulina has been a favourite superfood of mine for almost a decade. Honestly, even just the dark and rich green colour of spirulina says enough about how healthy it is!
Spirulina is a cyanobacteria, which are single celled microbes that are often referred to as blue green algae. It is one of the highest plant sources of protein, chlorophyll, B vitamins, minerals, carotenoids, and more!
It is said to help remove heavy metals from the body and improve detoxification. With its vitamin and mineral content, spirulina also helps boost energy and is a great whole-food supplement.

How much should I take?
As with any new food, introducing it to your body slowly is the way to go to make sure that it feels good for you! I recommend starting with 1/2-1 tsp daily, and working your way up to 1-4 tsp daily!
Spirulina is an acquired taste for some, but I find it to be quite mild and can be mixed into water, smoothies, juices, onto salads, and however you want to get it in!
It is a great source of nutrition for children, teens, and the whole family.
